What I Ate Wednesday #9

Good morning, all!! Happy hump day! I’m going to keep today’s What I Are Wednesday post short and sweet (like me)! This is actually everything I ate yesterday…I decided to plan for this post ahead of time for once! I feel like that’s something I need to get used to doing  – planning things ahead of time – what with a baby on the way. We’ll see how that works out I suppose. 😉  A big thank you goes out to Jenn at Peas and Crayons for hosting this fabulous link up. Enjoy my eats!

Breakfast: Two banana chocolate chip muffins with some decaf lady grey tea. Perfect and toasty warm on such a freakin’ cold day! Noms!

Snack #1: 1 hard boiled egg with two Morning Star Farms veggies sausage.

Lunch: Leftover spinach and artichoke dip (I made it for New Year’s Eve but didn’t wind up eating any because I ate so much other food!) with a handful of tortilla chips and a dozen baby carrots. I also had a few Brookside Chocolate Blueberries! (Thanks, Nicole!)

Snack #2: A Wegmans brand honey flavored blended greek yogurt. I’m a fan of Wegmans brand greek yogurt…I still prefer chobaini most of the time…buuuuuut I REALLY prefer paying 66 cents a cup instead of $1.09!

Snack #3: String cheese!! They never got old. I’m telling ya.

Dinner: John and I had a really great arm workout at the gym and I was suuuuuuuuuper hungry when I got home. I marinated two tilapia fillets in a combination of soy sauce, sesame oil, sriracha, garlic, and just a tiny bit of brown sugar while I let them defrost in a ziplock in a big pot of warm water for 5 minutes. I cooked them really quickly in a skillet with the marinade which turned into a lovely glaze. I popped a pouch of Uncle Ben’s Brown Basmatti Ready Rice in the microwave and tossed together a quick Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Asian Chopped Salad and dinner was done in twenty minutes! I covered it in green onions and more sriracha and devoured it.

Dessert: After all of that dinner I was still kind of hungry and wanted something sweet, so I melted together a tablespoon of peanut butter and a tablespoon of nutella and plopped a sliced banana on top. Ya know – plopped is not a very appetizing word now that I think about it. Oh well. It was effing delicious. Then Johnny and I watched Dads, Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, and I proceeded to fall asleep on the couch during New Girl. Oh well!!

What was your favorite thing you ate this week so far?! I loved my dinner last night…I’ll definitely be making my tilapia that way again, soon!

National Nutrition Month & Friday Faves

Boy time sure does fly. I’m so excited about so many things coming up I’m not even sure where to begin.

Right now, what I’m MOST excited about is that it’s National Nutrition Month! Sure, other monthly celebrations are important, but this one takes the cake (in moderation, of course 🙂 )! Nutrition is something I’m so passionate about, even more so over the last year.  I’m proud to say that since August I’ve lost ten pounds and have been staying the course for leading a healthy, happy life! Proper nutrition is a major factor in my success!

This year’s National Nutrition Month theme is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.” I love this theme, as it’s really a reflection of the way that I eat already and the way that I encourage my friends, family, and followers to eat as well. What, exactly, does it mean to me? The way I see it, we only get one opportunity on this Earth and we really should make the most of it.  Properly fueling and nourishing your body is the best way to guarantee making the most of it – but that doesn’t mean say no to every cupcake that crosses your path!

So in honor of National Nutrition Month, here are a few of my favorite healthy things these days!

Favorite Healthy Recipe I’m Excited to Make

Pan-seared Salmon and Crispy Tomatoes over Quinoa via Shape.com. Everything about this recipe sounds amazing! On top of the deliciousness, this recipe is packed with protein, omega-3s, and antioxidants.  I am literally salivating right now.

Favorite Healthy Snack

I’m all about these YumnNuts Toasted Coconut Cashews. They are just sweet enough to take care my afternoon cravings and
at 160 calories, 4 grams of protein, and 2 grams of fiber per serving I never feel guilty when I munch them!

Favorite Work Out Song

I don’t care if this song is about her lady parts – I can not stop listening to Gold Trans Am off Ke$ha’s album, Warrior.
It just makes me wanna move!

Favorite Healthy Condiment

Sriracha!!! Sweet heavens you could put Sriracha on a boot and I’d probably eat it. At a mere 5 calories per tablespoon I’m likely to just slather this all over everything –  like my dinner last night (and lunch today)! I love knowing that I can have happy tastebuds and help speed up my metabolism (thank you chili peppers) all at the same time!

Favorite Yoga Pose

Shoulder stand! According to Yoga Guru Kristin McGee and Health.com, shoulder stand helps to fight cellulite. It also helps stretch the spine, aids in thyroid function (and ultimately helps speed up your metabolism) , helps headaches and indigestion, and tones your legs and abs. I love how I feel in shoulder stand and have been actively increasing the time I spend in it every night before bed.

Favorite Workout Top

I’m not going to lie to you, I wish I had six of these tops so I could wear one to the gym every day! The Slub-Knit GoDRY Tee from Old Navy is positively my favorite work out top. I prefer to work out in v-necks so that my shirt doesn’t stick to my sweaty chest (great mental picture, I know) and this one is snug enough to be feminine, so I don’t look like a slob, but loose enough to be comfortable doing any exercise! I have it in blue, which it doesn’t look like they sell anymore, but once these puppies are on sale again I plan to snatch up a few more!

Favorite Healthy Indulgence

For Valentine’s Day, Johnny bought me what I now believe is the best chocolate bar of all time (and orange roses because he’s the sweetest and knows my favorite things 🙂 ) – especially if you’re a nut lover like me! The Chuao Dark Chocolate Nut Nirvana bar is rich dark chocolate studded with almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios. There is seriuosly a nut in every bite, sometimes more!! I’ve been good and I only eat a little square at time because it’s so rich…and also because I don’t want it to end! Nut nirvana might be an understatement.

So there you have it!

Those are a few of my favorite healthy things this Friday!

What are some of your favorite things? I’d love to hear from you!
