WIAW #27 – A Funny Story with an Adorable Ending

So who wants to hear a funny story?? I, personally, love a good amusing anecdote. This story isn’t just amusing, but it also has a pretty adorable ending. Here goes:

Last Monday was the first day of my maternity leave. The following post contains all of my eats from that Monday. I wrote this post last Tuesday evening, as I typically do with my What I Ate Wednesday posts. I was super excited to actually have the time to get a post up, too!! I knew it had been a while so I made sure I kept a really great record of my whoooole Monday. I was getting a little sleepy that evening, so I decided I would finish this post up the following morning. I hit the hay around 10:00pm Tuesday the 10th.

annnnnnnnnnnnnd I went into labor at 2:00 AM!!

Miss Emma Grace was born one day early at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. She weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was twenty inches long. Just in case you don’t follow me on Instagram and haven’t been getting blown up with my baby pictures, here is what I shared with our family and friends to let them know she had finally arrived! It’s so crazy that my little munchkin is already a week old today!!

Emma's Announcement

I will be sharing a post with more pictures and my whole labor story tomorrow for anyone who is is interested in that sort of thing. For today, since this post was already ESSENTIALLY finished, I’m sharing how I spent and what I ate the first day of my maternity leave. Also, I’d like to take a moment here to wish my hubby a very happy 27th birthday today!!! He’s absolutely, positively the sweetest, silliest, sexiest, most genuine person I have ever known, the best daddy to our baby girl, and I am overjoyed to be able to call him my husband. Love you buggle. 🙂

Now, here is my WIAW! I’ve left the original introduction I wrote to this post, too, just for posterity. 😉

Well howdy doo!!!

I’m not gonna lie to you, I am absolutely tickled to be able to be getting this post up today!! I know that I mentioned in my last post that I’ve been pretty busy over the last few weeks. Well, Monday was officially the first day of my maternity leave. Baby is due TOMORROW!!!! I have a doctor’s appointment today to check and see how things are progressing that I am super looking forward to.

I’ve spent the last two days trying to be as productive as I can while still making sure I’m rested up and ready to go for labor. Or, well, as ready as I can be I suppose. I’ve FINALLY had time to prepare some freezer meals. I made about a dozen breakfast sandwiches (eggs, broccoli, a wee bit o’ bacon, and cheddar frittata style on whole wheat english muffins) 15 chocolate coconut banana muffins, several packs of frozen strawberries and bananas for smoothies, protein flax waffles, chicken fajitas, and spaghetti sauce with ground turkey. It’s not too much, but I’m sure it will definitely be helpful in the coming weeks.

Here is how my first day of maternity leave went down:

Breakfast: So I wound up waking up around 6:30 on Monday morning. Technically that’s still sleeping in for me on a weekday, because I was usually up at 5:30 to get ready for work and such. I sat down to breakfast at the table with my latest read – Nick Offerman’s “Paddle Your Own Canoe” (Absolutely hilarious. I love everything about this man.) – a cup of decaf english breakfast tea, a whole wheat english muffin topped with almond butter and some of my latest obsession, that is, Wegmans Organic Blueberry Jam. It’s amazing. Seriously. I also had a hard boiled egg with a lil’ black pepper sprinkled on top. It was pretty delightful.

Snack: I’m not usually one for the lil’ fruity greek yogurts because they’re so high in sugar, but I had a coupon for a 12-pack at BJs so I only spent $8 on a dozen. That makes me feel better about them. This guy was pretty delicious.
oikos

Snack time was followed by some Yoga. Melinda bought me this DVD for Christmas and although I used it a bit then, it’s not particularly challenging if you’re an experienced yogi in your first or second trimester. Now, though, I’m so thankful I have it! It’s a really great combination of relaxing and challenging at this point in my pregnancy (ya know…ready to pop).
prenatal yoga

More Snacks: Snack time post yoga was the pregnancy special – 6 dates with a tablespoon of peanut butter and some iced raspberry leaf tea. I’m not usually one to go along with old wives tales and all that jazz, but I figured when it comes to eating dates and drinking raspberry leaf tea, there is no harm in consuming them, so I may as well give it a whirl. There have been studies done linking date consumption in late stage pregnancy to an increased likelihood of spontaneous labor occurring and a decreased likelihood in the need for induction. Date consumption has also been linked to dilation occurring more rapidly. Raspberry leaf tea is recognized for its benefits for women’s health in general. Some folks say it’s supposed to induce labor. Others say it just may make things a bit easier. Regular consumption of raspberry leaf tea has been linked to strengthening and toning the uterus. I’ll let ya know how it all works out for me. 🙂

Lunch: Melinda and I went out for lunch on Monday and snagged some eats at one of our favorite local places – Juice and Java. My go to is the Sun- dried Grilled Chicken Sandwich. It’s grilled chicken, Monterrey jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion with a “chipotle spread” on sun-dried tomato bread. They typically serve their sandwiches and wraps with chips – which are delicious – but they also offer orange wedges on the side if you ask. That’s my personal choice!! I was also delighted to see they had decaf blueberry coffee…which I got and turned into iced coffee and enjoyed every sip of!!

Once we got back from lunch Melinda and I sat down and I finished designing her wedding invitations!! But not before snapping of photo of the babies enjoying their bones together!!

Dinner: I almost forgot to snap a picture of my dinner on Monday, but Johnny was kind enough to remind me. It was pretty simple and delicious. Grilled chicken breasts with a bit of bbq sauce, baked potatoes, and some green beans with almonds (thanks, Green Giant).

Dessert: Johnny went out to do man things on Monday, as per usual, so after dinner I sat down with some strawberries and whipped cream and Battlestar Galactica.

And that’s all she wrote!! As usual, a big shout out to Jenn at Peas and Crayons for hosting this fabulous link-up party. The next time I participate, I’ll (hopefully) be a momma!! Ah!!! That’s nuts!!! Only time will tell, right??

Eating for Two: The Home Stretch

Hey folks!! Happy Wednesday!!

I’m still alive, still here, and still VERY pregnant!

It’s been a busy time, man!! Although I adore blogging… it just hasn’t been a priority these days. Particularly because I usually blog … ya know … new recipes or workouts or things of that nature. And, to be honest, making new things and doing new workouts haven’t really been priorities either.  I’m still cooking and still working out, of course, but it’s just easier these days to eat the same things I always do and pop in a yoga DVD so I don’t need to think about it or worry about it too much when I’ve still got cloth diapers that need to be washed and a hospital bag that’s almost-but-not-quite together (I know…I’m due next Thursday…it should be done by now…I live on the edge).

Regardless, I know that I wanted to share with my loverly readers (yes, that’s you) some of the fabulous photos Johnny and I had taken at 36 weeks (I will officially by 39 weeks pregnant tomorrow. WTF mate?!)!! My amazing friend Ashely’s awesome friend Lindsay was kind enough to take these for us and I love, love, love them so, so, much!!! I hope you guys enjoy!! These are just a few, but they’re my favorites!! We’ll see if I can squeeze in another bumpdate before I squeeze out this baby, too.

I’m still linking up with Jenn this week for What I Ate Wednesday. So far, as today is Wednesday, I’ve eaten a banana oat muffin, some decaf english breakfast tea, and a banana with some peanut butter. Exciting stuff, right??? That’s why I’m sharing THESE photos and not THOSE photos. XX/OO!!

Eating for Two: Week 37

37 Weeks PregnantHow far along: 37 weeks!!

Total weight gain/loss: Looks like I’m about 151 this week, so 33 pounds gained total.

Maternity clothes? I’m pretty resigned to the fact that I will be wearing the same 5 outfits to work every week until baby is born at this point.

Stretch marks? None as of yet, but I know there is still time.

Sleep: Sleep is still coming pretty well to me. When I wake up in the morning, though, my hands are like balloons. Okay…not quite balloons…but either way…quite puffy and achy.

Miss anything? Regular bowl movements? Is that TMI???? Ohhhhh welllllll!! We’re all friends here, right? I won’t go into too much detail, haha, but I’m not sure if it’s the iron supplement I’ve been taking or if it’s just the fact that I’m super pregnant, but either way, I’m looking forward to the return of regularity.

Movement: This little lady is going to be an athlete of some sort as she is always up to something.

Food cravings:  Chocolate. Milk.

Food aversions: Nope!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope. Still “hiccurping” like a champion, though.

Best moment this week: Johnny and I got some maternity photos taken over the weekend and I juuuuust adore them!!! We brought Quincy with us and I’m pretty sure he was the star of the show, but I’m cool with it. I’ll share some with you soon!! I promised nursery photos first, which I will be sharing with you at the end of this post!!

Labor signs: Definitely a few more Braxton Hicks contractions. Nothing unusual otherwise.

Symptoms: My feet and ankles are quite puffy these days. I’m pretty much living in flip flops because I can slip them off at my desk. My hands are getting pretty puffy, too. And my joints – specifically my knuckles, wrists, and knees – are all kind of achy. Particularly right when I wake up in the morning. Oh bah. It’s irritating, but I know I could be much worse off, so I try to be thankful things aren’t worse than they are. 🙂

Belly Button in or out? In, but it’s definitely stretching to maximum capacity. (FYI: Biggest regret ever was getting my belly button pierced. I had it done when I was 16ish I think, and took it out when I was 21ish. The scar almost looks like a second belly button now annnnnnnnnnd I hate it.)

Wedding rings on or off? I’ve been taking them off to sleep lately because my hands are so puffy when I wake up that the rings are a little uncomfortable. After I shower though they fit back on. 🙂

Happy or Moody most of the time: It’s been a good week for me, but I still think it’s safe to say I’m moody lol.

Looking forward to: The long weekend…which also happens to be my BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!!! My birthday is on Monday. YAY!!! I’m 26 on the 26th this year AND it’s my last baby-free birthday. I’m looking forward to it being pretty low key this year and just spending the day with the hubs…perhaps with some Thai Food and Carrot Cake…as they are two of my most favorite things.

And now, as promised, some photos of the nursery!!!! I’m still working on getting storage for the cloth diapers on the changing table. And I will be removing the stuffed animals once baby girl arrives. I just don’t have a place for them all yet!!

Eating for Two: Week 35

Wow, man, I can’t believe it’s been almost 6 weeks since I shared a real bumpdate!!! Time flies the fastest when you’re pregnant, I’m telling you!!

I am in such a weird place lately. I feel like everything I feel lately is always extreme. I’m either suppppper happy, or I want to cry my eyes out. Or I’m perky and full of energy…or I want to curl up in a ball and sleep for a week. It’s definitely a unique feeling, and I’m doing my very best to not let it get the best of me and enjoy the 5 weeks I have left to prepare for my little muffin to show her beautiful face!!!

The nursery is coming along great and I hope to have everything washed and hung up this weekend. I’ll share some pictures when it’s all done!! I already started washing sheets and blankets and bibs and towels and they’re all folded and put away. I have the sheets set up in the crib and it’s too flippin’ cute I can hardly handle it. Sure, they’ll be covered in poop and spit up soon enough, but right now they are soft and pristine and adorbs. 🙂

This weekend I’m going to do what I can to plan out and get started on a few freezer meals, too (I hope!), to just have a few things ready to go for once baby is here. Anyone have some fave’s they’d like to share with me??

Anywho, the hubs is busy watching the draft tonight so I don’t have an “official” chalkboardy bump picture, but I took this one a little while ago for funsies and it will have to suffice. 😀

35 Weeks Pregnant
How far along: 35 weeks!!

Total weight gain/loss:  I’m tipping the scales at 150 lbs these days, so that’s what, 32 pounds gained I think? I’m still very thankful it’s pretty much all in my belly. My lower back is becoming less thankful for that everyday, though.

Maternity clothes? Oh gosh, I’m really at a point now where it’s like…I only have 5 weeks left…and I do not want to buy more maternity clothes. However, it’s starting to get much warmer out, and leggings are starting to become less and less fun to wear. I have a few dresses that are not maternity but I can still wear quite comfortably. I’m just about done trying to squeeze myself into jeans even with my belly band.

Stretch marks? Nada!!

Sleep: It depends on the night. I’m not waking up to pee at all, which is nice, but even when I just sleep in a tank top and underwear I’ll get into bed cold and wake up at 2:00am sweating!! I’ve also found that for me to get a good night of rest I need to sleep on the opposite side I slept on the night before. I know it sounds weird…but it’s working for me.

Miss anything? Lol how about bending down without having to spread my legs like I’m about to hop on a horse. Otherwise, I’m good. 😀

Movement: So much, in fact, I’m curious when she sleeps!! I know I’ve read quite a bit about babies sleep cycles being the opposite of their mother’s but I’m telling you I feel her all day!!! It makes me wonder if maybe she just sleeps when I do.

Food cravings:  Not craving much these days. I’m all up on citrus fruits again lately, I guess. I smelled oranges at the farmers market and decided I needed them.

Food aversions: Nope!

Anything making you queasy or sick: I’m not queasy or sick but I have coined a new term for what I experience the most of lately. They’re called “hiccurps”. I do it a million times a day. It starts off feeling like a hiccup, and ends in a burp. Freakin’ adorable, I know.

Best moment this week: Meh, this week hasn’t really had one of those. It’s not like this week has been AWFUL, just really long and stressful at work. I guess actually I was quite excited this morning when I FINALLY got in touch with the pediatrician’s office after a week of phone tag and got my appointment scheduled lol.

Labor signs: I feel like I mayyyy have had a few Braxton Hicks contractions over the last week, but who knows really. It was just like all of a sudden my belly went from squishy to rock solid and back after a few minutes.

Symptoms: Some lower back pain that I’ve been trying to take care of with yoga and a heating pad. It’s definitely helping. Though sitting at work all day certainly isn’t. *sigh* And I pretty much feel like this…all the time:

EmmoooootinallllBelly Button in or out? In, but it’s definitely stretching to maximum capacity.

Wedding rings on or off? On! Since it’s gotten warmer out, though, I’m definitely noticing that they are more snug than ever before.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Please see above lol.

Looking forward to: The weekend of course. This one should be pretty chill and productive. We’re probably going to see the new Spider-Man, too, which is prettttty exciting. And hopefully getting froyo with Ashely and Jared on Sunday. <3

Maternity clothes? Love them!!! Though I was quite excited yesterday when I slipped on my green Gap khakis and they still fit great everywhere but my belly!! This belly band was probably the best investment I’ve made throughout this whole pregnancy!! I’ve got a shopping cart filled with maternity stuff at Old Navy.com, too, that I may or may not buy this weekend. It’s spring, ya’ll, and I need some dresses!!

Stretch marks? Nope!!

Sleep: I actually slept for like 9 hours last night. I’m getting it while I can I suppose.

Miss anything? I’m back to really missing my runny yolks. I love me a plate of eggs benedict. I’m pretty positive at this point in time my post baby diet will consist of smoked salmon eggs benedict, sushi, and melty brie and sangria.

Movement: Oh goodness yes!! All week this little lady has been tumbling and somersaulting like a little nut!

Food cravings:  I really only ever want to eat chocolate and peanut butter and only eat other things for nourishment. I’m actually sooooo sad that I left my bag of chocolate chips in my desk drawer at work today so I can’t have my chocolate chip peanut butter banana oatmeal tomorrow. :( Eggs it is I suppose.

Food aversions: Nope!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!

Best moment this week: Signing back up to be a Pampered Chef consultant!! I’m so excited about it!! There are so many amazing new products that I can’t wait to have in my personal kitchen and I look forward to helping whoever I can earn free and discounted products for themselves, too!!!

Gender predictionGIRL!

Labor signs: Nada.

Symptoms:  I’ve been pretty emotional this week. Or maybe just for the last 24 hours. Last night, I’m pretty sure I started crying because I was bored. I don’t even know. I just started bawling out of nowhere!!! Oh hormones!

Belly Button in or out? In!

Wedding rings on or off? On!

Happy or Moody most of the time:  Moody pants McGee over here.

Looking forward to: SO MUCH!!! This weekend will be productive and relaxing, next weekend we get to see Bill and Susan again, the next weekend we’ll be in South Carolina, and the next weekend I get to see my Momma and it’s my baby shower!!! Ahh!!! So much happiness!!!!

I don’t know about you, but I am sooooooo happy it’s Friday!! This week went by pretty fast, thank goodness!! I’m sooooo looking forward to spending the rest of my evening relaxing with a good book, getting up early tomorrow and making a healthy breakfast, and heading out to yoga class tomorrow morning with Miss Ashely!! I’ll be spending the rest of my weekend cleaning, organizing, and starting to get some of the nursery together!!!! Eeeeeeeeee!!!!!!  Johnny is going to be doing the painting, I’m going to be cleaning and organizing. I think it’s fair, yes? Good!  Now, onto what you’re really here for – the bUmPdate!!!

28 weeks pregnantHow far along: 28 weeks, 1 day
